Analysis and management of Cranio-Mandibular Dysfunction in the context of the Central Nervous System
Post-graduate courses on CMD in physical and manual therapy commonly start with an analysis and management of temporomandibular joint disorders and chewing muscle overactivity.
The mandibular branch of the trigeminal nerve sensory supplies the craniomandibular articulation and explains for pain in the area.
A basic understanding of pathomechanical articular, over- and underactive muscular disorders and a large variety of additional complaints in the head, face and neck area all lead to the trigeminal nerve complex in the central nervous system.
The central trigeminal nervous system is interactive with all other cranial nerves.
Knowledge of trigeminal connections in the brainstem, with other nuclei and cranial nerves, with supraspinal nervous structures needs to be structured in a procedural approach towards a comprehensive overall management.
Management principally starts with dental or orthodontic interventions and is continued with additional treatments by various disciplines in a multidisciplinary network with other medical specialists, physical therapists and or speech therapists.
Primarily, this seminar will address the various roles of physical therapists within the overall management and implements the guidelines for educational programs of IFOMPT: evidence-informed, clinical reasoning based, patient-centred.
The latter implies active participation of the patient in many different ways as is outlined in the recently published patient guide in German language (Kiefer, Kopf & Gesicht by Langendoen, Sertel & Berkmiller, 2023, Trias, Stuttgart)

The introductory seminar of 3 full days (24 hrs) is mainly practical.
Therefore it is not on online-seminar. Physical presence is required.

Practice includes passive techniques (Hands-On), active training (Hands-Off), as well as a large variety of other interventions such as breathing training, ergonomics, relaxation, electrotherapy, functional taping with elastic tape and other sensory input (olfactory, visual, auditory, tactile).

With the email finalizing the seminar (approximately one month before the start of the seminar), a bibliography will be sent to aid in the preparation of the participants.

Testimonials

Training, a steady value for more than twenty years now, leads physiotherapy and keeps it at a very high level, well done to George Karambalis and his associates, we owe a lot to all of you.

- Philip Tzimoulis -

EPIMORFOSIS organizes specialization seminars for rehabilitation professionals. I’ve watched a lot. I strongly recommend you trust EPIMORFOSIS for your specialization and lifelong information.

- Alexandros Karagiannidis -

EPIMORFOSIS justifies its name by providing high quality courses. George Karampalis operates more like a constant “trainee” and less like an entrepreneur, and this is an additional positive fact in the effort that is put by the workers and teachers of EPIMORFOSIS.

- Dimitris Stamoulis -

I have known George Karampalis and EPIMORFOSIS for many years. I’ve had the opportunity to join several clinical courses and I can argue that, at the level of organisation and selection of trainers, they have a high level of recognised prestige.

- Georgia Petta -

My first steps in professional specialization started with EPIMORFOSIS and continue. It has been with us all these years, covering the need for modern and documented knowledge, in collaboration with internationally acclaimed educational institutions.

- Kostas Poulis -

The best physiotherapists training institution. It enables the development of the necessary knowledge for clinical reasoning. High-quality training without having to travel abroad.

- Tsoukalas Kotsiris Georgios -
