By the time I graduated from the Occupational Therapy department of the TEI of Athens, I had already completed four short-term clinical and internship cycles.
At the Pediatric Psychiatric Hospital of Attica, i learned how to apply behavioral education interventions to children in the autistic spectrum such as PECS, TEACCH, Discrete Trial Instruction as well as Sensory Integration.
I was also taught how to use clinical evaluations to set intervention goals. During my practical internship at Dromokaitio Psychiatric Hospital of Athens, i was given the opportunity to lead my own arts and crafts workshop consisting of 10 participants and i was given a firsthand experience
experience on the impact of vocational skills workshops on the therapeutic process. In National Rehabilitation Center (former EIAA) i also gained exposure to kinesiology exercises for hand/eye coordination, the use of static hand splinting and home modifications to promote independent living. Moreover, as a clinical intern at Keratsini Center for Preventative Medicine and Social Welfare, I was given the chance to participate in the creation of personalized OT programs to patients with acquired mobility disabilities and learn how to create a therapeutic protocol as well as when to make the appropriate referrals to other specialists.
As a freelance occupational therapist in a variety of settings, at ‘Logos & Kinesis’ Children’s Rehabilitation Centre in Piraeus, at the pprivate nnursery and preschool ‘Oi mikroi kyknoi’ as well as for the NGO ‘Apostoli’ in Athens.
I am conducting developmental functioning assessments by using evaluation instruments, support and supervise occupational therapy interns with their training. In addition, i design and implement personalized intervention programs for children on the Autism Spectrum Disorder with the aim to improve their social interaction skills as well as cognitive and learning ability.
As part of my current duties, i will also create individual programs for children with ADHD, SPD and OCD aiming at reorganizing the child’s sensory system, decreasing hyperactivity, improve concentration and teach how to set boundaries and aggression control. Furthermore, i coordinate group workshops to boost employability skills to people with Down Syndrome and mixed learning difficulties by teaching DLA (Daily Life Activities) and help with access to community programs aiming at full or partial community integration.
Besides my practical experience I am also very interested in research and work as an external associate for the General Hospital Asklepeiio Voulas, where under the supervision of Mr. George Savvopoulos, i have been developing therapeutic protocols for patients with rheumatoid arthritis and apply them for research and educational purposes.
Apart from a 13-year-old professional experience in the area, i had a full presence in various tv shows to promote occupational therapy, seminars as a speaker about subjects such as independent living, learning difficulties and occupational therapy intervention, presentation of software for alternative communication in smartphones or tablets, hemiplegia and so on.
